+ 3 - 5 | § Elbow Macaroni
   --

When I moved to Massachusetts for my first job right out of college I made three big mistakes:  Bought more car than I could afford (a Mazda Miata), rented more apartment than I could afford (two bedroom), and overlooked the fact that Uncle Sam taxes hardworking, educated, and responsible people harder than those that decide they do not want to take the easy way.  As a result, I had overextended my financial responsibilities and could only afford one kind of food:  Elbow Macaroni with ground meat (sometimes without meat).

+ 5 - 3 | § Pro-life / Pro-Choice Republican / Democrat
   --

I am pro-choice, yet I have strong republican tendencies. Then, I just figured out that the republicans should advocate for the “pro-choice” position, and the democrats should advocate for the “pro-life” position.  (The opposite of what they do right now.)

Why? Simple…

+ 3 - 5 | § Friday Five - Life Choices
   --

Hey!, it is late, but so are the new questions from the Friday Five site, wich has been less than punctual on their questions posting (time people send them some suggestions).

Anyway, I seldom answer the Friday Five, but Mach 19th and April 9th ones are special:  They are about what we would like to do with our lives given a choice, and what we have done with it.  Life is full of choices.  Better think about the course to take before we are presented with a similar choice.  And long after you have taken the choices, reflect about the outcome.

Now to the questions:

+ 4 - 3 | § Hiking again - at last! - Upton State Forest
   --

Eager to start hiking again this season, and to find out for how bad my SO knee really was, we decided to go for an easy and nearby hike on Upton State Forest.  As usual, our canine companion (Zoey) and her owners went with us.

The park is suprisingly nice, clean, and enjoyable despite being so close to home and heavily used by horses and dogwalkers on weekends.  It even has a nice pond and swiming area in the middle of the trail route that could make hot summer day extremely fun (if only we had enough of those days).

Apparently my SO's knee is fine, and apparently, can do more than the easy hike we did.  A tick spoiled us some of the fun away (we are scared of those), but not enough to make us desist of hiking next weekend.  Spring is here to stay (for a while)!

If interested, check the Local Hikes report on this hike (with maps, photos, and other usefull information).

+ 4 - 3 | § Ticks, ticks, ticks everywhere!!! - Charles Ward Reservation
   --

Last fall we went to one last fall hike.  It was local on purpose, and not too long.  It wasn't all that fun, but now I just wish to be hiking again.

We went to the Charles Ward Reservation, mantained by The Trustees of Reservations.  The park is great to enjoy nice views of Boston, and have a nice afternoon stroll.  If you are into aquatic life and biology, you may enjoy a large Bog that was formed, and is part of one of the trails (quite interesting).   For details about this hike, you may wish to read my Local Hikes report on it.

However, just at the end of our hike we found lots of those pesty deer ticks on us.   Almost enough to scare us away... But not enough to scare us from hiking.

We want to start the hiking season soon enough (sans-ticks).  However, my SO has a bad knee because of an injury this winter, and we may have to take it easier than we would have hoped - at least for spring.

+ 9 - 4 | § Mantain Your Edge
-- Saving with Good Maintenance Habits

It is amazing how easily we forget to provide proper maintenance to the things we use every day.  It is not because we don't remember the proper maintenance procedures - we do know them very well.  Then why we are very eager to buy an item, and then forget about providing maintenance for it?
